Utah Valley women beat North Dakota State
October 19, 2010
OREM, Utah - A trio of seniors each scored a goal in their final home game as Utah Valley shutout North Dakota State, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at Clyde Field.
Katey Turner, Nicole Archibald Spencer and Taryn Eldredge each found the goal to give the Wolverines (7-7-1) their season-best fourth straight win and their first-ever win over the Bison (8-5-1) in four tries.
The win caps a streak of three wins over a five-day period for Utah Valley.
"Playing three games in five days is very tough," said head coach Brent Anderson. "I'm really proud of the team and the energy they brought to the field. North Dakota State is a very good team. They beat Southern Utah down there on Saturday and we knew this was going to be a battle coming in."
After North Dakota State controlled the ball for the early part of the game, Utah Valley took control right back in the 17th minute on Turner's goal. The senior broke free in front of the goal and fired the ball into the left corner for her third goal in the last two games and 22nd of her career.
Archibald Spencer came back just over four minutes later with a shot that glanced off the left post and in for her team-leading seventh goal of 2010. Kendra Buchanan was credited with the assist, the third straight game she has assisted on a Wolverine goal.
Eldredge notched her first goal of the year and first since her freshman season in the 71st minute on an assist from Archibald Spencer.
UVU finished with a slim 14-13 edge in total shots but a 9-3 advantage on goal. Goalkeeper Lauren Sack notched the Wolverines' fifth shutout of the year and her third individual shutout.
Utah Valley will now play its final three regular season conference games on the road beginning this Friday at North Dakota. The Wolverines will play at South Dakota on Sunday before the final regular season match on Oct. 30 at Houston Baptist.
