Utah Valley women defeat South Dakota

October 25, 2010
VERMILLION, South Dakota --  Utah Valley notched its third straight shutout and sixth consecutive victory overall with a 3-0 win at South Dakota in Great West Conference soccer on Sunday afternoon.

Lauren Sack had six saves in 68 minutes in goal as the Wolverines (9-7-1, 5-0) capped a 3-0 week with two of the wins coming on the road in conference. Sack finished with 12 saves in the three games in earning two shutouts and the team shutout.

"It's certainly satisfying to go through a game and not give up a goal," said UVU head coach Brent Anderson. "It starts with our front line and goes all the way back. We have athletic defenders with a lot of discipline and a sense of urgency in the back."

Three seniors did all of the scoring for the Wolverines. Andi Bagdan got an early goal on an assist from Nicole Archibald Spencer in the 12th minute for first-half scoring.

UVU then grouped a pair of goals within two minutes of one another fifteen minutes into the second half. Katey Turner got her fifth goal of the season and fourth in four games on a Regan Clifford assist in the 61st minute. Turner now has 23 career goals, three shy of tying the school record.

Lauren Bluth capped the scoring in the 63rd minute on another assist from Clifford.

The Wolverines finished with an efficient 14 shots on goal on 19 total shots. The Coyotes (4-10-2, 1-4) had 16 shots, six on goal.

Utah Valley has now gone unbeaten in 11 Great West regular season games since 2009 and is 10-0-1 in that time. Including last year's GWC Tournament, UVU is 13-0-1 against conference opponents.

"This team expects to win. This is a group that works very well together. We have a good group of experienced players that have played together for four years now and they respond well to pressure," Anderson said.

The Wolverines have one regular season game remaining, Saturday at Houston Baptist, before the Great West Conference Tournament on Nov. 5 in Houston.
