November 8, 2010
HOUSTON - The 2010 Utah Valley soccer season came to a heartbreaking end in a double-overtime loss in the semifinals of the Great West Conference Tournament, 1-0, at Houston Baptist.

A shot in the 105th minute by Arielle Rodriguez found the corner of the goal to end the Wolverines’ season at a record of 10-9-1.

For 104 minutes the game looked headed for a shootout. Neither side was able to mount more than just a minor scoring chance or two. Both teams had five shots on goal and UVU held a 12-9 edge over the Huskies (7-13-1) in total shots.

Utah Valley bids farewell to its most successful senior class; Danielle Anderson, Nicole Archibald Spencer, Andi Bagdan, Lauren Bluth, Hailey Brown, Kendra Buchanan, Taryn Eldredge, Katey Turner and Sara Walker.

As a group the senior class won a United Soccer Conference tournament championship and regular season championship, two Great West regular season titles and one tournament championship.

“They’ve taken this program to a much higher level. We’ll miss not only what they do on the field but their personalities as well,” said head coach Brent Anderson. “They can be proud. They had another winning season and had a great run in conference. I know it can sound hollow to say ending with a loss but I’m just proud of them.”

The season was filled with several highlights including the program’s second straight Great West Conference West Division title, a sweep of the four major conference awards and eight players earning all-conference.

Turner finishes her career with 25 goals, just one shy of the school record, and also finishes second in career points.

Freshman Lauren Sack’s 0.98 goals against average is a school record as is her .828 save percentage.
