The 13th ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team won their 12th consecutive game, a school record, Tuesday night topping non-conference foe Macalester College 2-1 at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The previous record of 11 straight wins was set back in 2003. When asked about the streak and what it meant UW-Whitewater Coach Ryan Quamme said, "After the season this streak will mean more. I'm just proud of how this team keeps finding ways to win."

The Warhawks (15-2) haven't had to come from behind often this season, in fact, besides their two losses the Warahwks have only played from behind once prior to Tuesday night. Back on October 8th the Warhawks fell behind North Park 1-0 but rallied to win 3-1. That same scenario took place Tuesday night.

UW-Whitewater goalkeeper Jordan Myers (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) made a couple of key saves in the first ten minutes of play to keep the Scots off the board. In the 15th minute of action Macalester earned a free kick inside the box. The initial shot was blocked and the ball bounced around until it found the foot of Bonnie Gale who put it in the net to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek), looking for the equalizer, ripped a shot on net in the 27th minute that was stopped by Scot goalie Emma Toomer. Less than four minutes later the Warhawks earned a corner kick. Jordan Jackson (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) elected to take the kick and struck a cross that found the head of Nicole Lorenz (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant), but Lorenz's shot glanced off the post. Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) was on the other end of the favorable ricochet and knocked it in for her third goal of the season.

The two teams traded shots in the next five minutes and both keepers made saves. Strong play by the goalies continued when Toomer made a rare save on a penalty kick in the 39th minute to preserve the tie as the teams headed into the half.

Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South), Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) poured on the pressure to start the second half each notching a shot on goal within the first ten minutes. In the 58th minute Kaitlyn Fritsch (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) had a shot blocked that came back to the feet of Pottle who buried it in the net to give the Warhawks a 2-1 advantage.

The Warhawk defense did the rest. The Scots fired off just four shots in the remaining 30 minutes of play, none on goal.

Myers and the defense have been stingy all season, giving up 0.53 goals per game. Myers made four saves in Tuesday's match to lift her season total to 52 while also notching nine shutouts. "Jordan has been a rock," coach Quamme stated, "The way that first goal went in could have rattle a lot of keepers but her experience allowed her to move on to what was next and she made some important saves down the stretch."

Quamme and the Warhawks will travel to UW-Superior on Saturday for their final regular-season conference match. A win over the Yellowjackets will give the Warhawks 29 consecutive regular-season WIAC wins and a third straight season with a perfect 8-0 conference record. The win would also clinch the WIAC title outright and the number one seed in the WIAC tournament beginning in two weeks. "One of our goals was to win conference by going 8-0," Quamme added after the game, "We want to make sure we finish it correct."
