Staten Island, NY - Freshman Le'la Allen's (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) first collegiate goal was not enough, as the Wagner College women's soccer team fell to Hartford by a 4-1 count on Thursday evening at Hameline Field.

Allen scored 70 minutes into the game off a feed from junior Sandra Battista (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy), depositing the ball into the net from close range in a sequence that was triggered by a long throw-in from sophomore Kaela Schrier (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee).

The Seahawks had their first chance of the game 17 minutes into the contest, but freshman Mya Donnelly (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) could not convert a dangerous cross by fellow newcomer Samantha Starr (New Canaan, CT / New Canaan). The visiting Hawks took a 2-0 halftime lead on a pair of goals by Kaila Lozada, which were both assisted by Sierra Stone.

In the second half, the Hawks doubled their lead on back-to-back goals by Bridgette Alexander, before the Seahawks answered with Allen's score. Wagner had more chances in the second half, the best one coming on a Battista breakaway, but the junior's attempt was saved.

Battista led the Green and White with three attempts, while freshman Samantha LaValle (Southbury, CT / Notre Dame of Fairfield) had two attempts on net. Sophomore Delaney Beck (Bakersfield, CA / Garces Memorial) paced Wagner with five saves in goal, falling to 2-2-1 on the year.

With the loss, Wagner is now 3-4-2 on the year with one non-conference matchup remaining, while Hartford improves to 4-5-1.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Sunday, September 23, as they travel to Manhattan for a 3:00 pm clash with Columbia before kicking off Northeast Conference (NEC) play at home vs. LIU Brooklyn on October 1.
