November 29, 2018
Bethpage, NY - The New York Metro Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NYMISOA) has recognized the Wagner College women's soccer team for displaying the greatest amount of sportsmanship during the 2018 season as the program was the recipient of the Bob Blitz Sportsmanship Award.

Of the 50+ women's college program's that compete in all divisions in the New York City metropolitan area, the Green & White were tabbed the recipients of this award as the 2018 Seahawks had only three cautions and no ejections the season. The sportsmanship award is voted on by game officials of the NYMISOA, who serve the metropolitan area.

"This is a tremendous honor for our players and our team," commented head coach Phil Casella. "To be recognized out of over 50 women's soccer programs across the New York City metro area is quite an accomplishment as our players are taught to play and train hard while holding themselves accountable to act in a professional and positive manner, both on and off the pitch. I am extremely proud of our student-athletes in being recognized for this award."

For Wagner, this marks the third time that the team was honored with this honor, claiming the recognition back in 1996 and in 2002.

About The NYMISOA:
The New York Metro chapter of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NISOA) was formed in 1964 as one of the original NISOA chapters. Our first chapter president was Dr. William Rosenthal, a founding member of NISOA, past-president of NISOA and a member of the NISOA Hall of Fame. The chapter membership includes intercollegiate soccer officials in New York, Kings, Queens, Bronx and Richmond counties of New York City, and Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties.

NYMISOA is made up of nearly 100 college referees in New York City, Long Island and Westchester. Every college season, our referees vote for the college programs that displayed the greatest amount of sportsmanship and fair play during the recent college season. At the annual awards dinner, held every November, the coaches of these schools are presented with the Doc Feld Sportsmanship Award for four-year men's college programs, the Bob Blitz Sportsmanship Award for four-year women's college programs and the Community College Sportsmanship Award for those schools.
