Wagner women fall to St. Francis (PA)
October 10, 2009
Staten Island, NY- The Wagner College women’s soccer team suffered a close 2-1 loss at the hands of Northeast Conference (NEC) competitor Saint Francis (PA) this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium. Sophomore Kaitlyn Llewellyn (Island Lake, IL / Wauconda) scored the lone goal for the Seahawks, who drop to 1-10-1 (0-3 NEC) on the season.
After a scoreless first-half, the Seahawks broke the stalemate in the 58th minute on Llewelyn’s goal from in front of the net, taking a 1-0 advantage. Llewelyn’s goal was set up by senior Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ / Rumson Fair-Haven).
The Seahawk were the more dangerous offensive team in the game, holding a 19-10 advantage in shots, including 11 in the second half. Unfortunately for Wagner, this wouldn’t be enough as the Red Flash (6-4-2, 3-1-0 NEC) notched the equalizer in the 72nd minute. Saint Francis’s first goal came off Rachel Seibert’s shot from 20 yards out. The Red Flash would go on to score the game-winning goal in the 88th minute off Traci Flick’s shot from ten yards out.
Junior goalkeeper Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield) finished with three saves while her counterpart Jessica Boyer recorded ten.
Wagner will return to action Sunday, October 11th when they host Robert Morris University at 11:00 PM.
