Wake Forest women beat Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Wake Forest freshman forward Katie Stengel scored two goals, while senior Bianca D’Agostino also added a goal and an assist as the Demon Deacons defeated Miami 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.
The Demon Deacons improve their record to 10-4 on the season and 3-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Miami is now 8-4-1 on the year and 2-2-0 in the ACC.
Wake Forest scored the first three goals of the match. Stengel put Wake in front with her first goal in the 34rd minute, while D’Agostino scored the eventual game winner in the 42nd minute. Stengel’s second goal in the 77th minute put the Deacons on top 3-0. Miami got on the board late with a goal by Brittany Macdonald in the 86th minute.
Stengel continued her sensational freshman season, recording her third multi-goal game of the season. The Melbourne, Fla., native now has 11 goals, which is the most for any freshmen in the country, and a team-leading 25 points.
D’Agostino turned in a season-high three points in the match, scoring a goal and an assist. The goal was the first of her senior season, while D’Agostino notched her second helper of the 2010 campaign.
Casey Luckhurst and Jordan Feger each contributed an assist in the victory. Luckhurst assisted on Stengel’s first goal, while Feger provided the game-winning assist on D’Agostino’s goal. The assist for Luckhurst was the first of her collegiate career, while Feger had her second assist of the season.
Aubrey Bledsoe earned the win in goal to improve her record to 10-4-0 on the season. Bledsoe made four saves and allowed one goal in the win.
Vikki Alonzo suffered the loss for Miami to drop to 8-4-1 on the year. Alonzo surrendered three goals and was forced to make six stops in the contest.
Wake Forest held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal, while Miami held a slight 17-14 edge in shots. Each team had three corner kick opportunities.

Wake Forest closes the road portion of its regular season schedule next week with a pair of games away from Spry Stadium. The Demon Deacons are at Virginia Tech on Thursday night at 7 p.m., before traveling to play Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
