Warhawks Drop Season Opener on the Road

CHICAGO, Ill. - Despite outshooting their opponent 22-13, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team dropped their season opener against Simpson College, 1-0, in Chicago on Saturday.

Junior transfer Henry Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) put the pressure on the Storm early when he fired a shot on goal just 1:04 into the contest. His shot was saved by Simpson keeper Jake Potratz.

The Warhawks continued their attack firing three more shots before Simpson was able to notch one.

The teams battled back-and-forth for the first 45 minutes but headed into halftime tied 0-0.

The Warhawk offense came out of the intermission with an aggressive attack. Shots by Alex Whiteman(Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect)Kevin Mesich (West Allis, Wis./West Allis Hale) and Peter Raymonds(Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) in the first 16 minutes of the second half were turned away by Potratz to keep the game scoreless.

Simpson finally broke onto the scoreboard at 66:16 when Tanner Alderson scored on a chip from Seth Bowman.

UW-W turned up the pressure in the final 20 minutes, outshooting Simpson 7-1 and earning four corner kicks, but the Warhawks were unable to capitalize before time ran out.

Senior goalkeeper Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) made four saves for the Warhawks.

The Warhawks have little time to regroup as they will return to the pitch on Saturday to face Manchester University at 1 p.m. in Chicago.
