Warriors complete undefeated regular season

November 3, 2013

TURLOCK — Fittingly, Karenee Demery scored twice on senior day as No. 6 Cal State Stanislaus blanked Cal State East Bay, 4-0, Sunday.

On a day where the program honored the seniors playing in their final regular season home match, the Warriors set more program records and reached more milestones after the victory.

The Warriors had already clinched a CCAA conference tournament berth and locked up the No. 1 seed in the postseason event. Those were accomplished a week ago when they beat No. 18 Sonoma State.

On Sunday, they checked off more program milestones:

• Become the CCAA's first regular season undefeated team since 1998. Check (Sonoma State went 22-0-0 in 1998)
• Hand head coach Gabriel Bolton his 100th career victory. Check. (He's now 100-57-19)
• Set new program record in wins. Check. (16 wins surpasses 15 wins set in 2009 and 2012)
• Protect their House by going undefeated at home. Check. (11-0 in regular season games)

A little over a week ago, after the win at Cal State East Bay, on Oct. 25, the Warriors also chalked up their second consecutive unbeaten season on the road at 5-0-2. In 2012, they were 9-0.

The 2013 squad also broke offensive records set by last season's team. The Warriors now have 47 goals, 50 assists and 144 points this season -- all new CSUS team records.

And of course, this group of seniors — Apryl Whitney, Allison Case, Allie Dugan, Emily Relles and Karenee Demery — all had everything to do with all of these team accomplishments, including the quest for another CCAA championship and another trip to the NCAA tournament.

In Sunday's win, after Cal State East Bay gave Stanislaus the 1-0 lead on an own goal, Demery went to work and score twice while eclipsing her own single season goal record, now with 21. Sabrina Williamson assisted on the score at 64:49 and Katelyn Nebesnick helped on Demery's second score at 69:41.

Kirsten Coleman extended the Stanislaus lead in the 79th minute after getting a long pass from Maryssa McDuffy.

The Warriors can now look at ahead to the postseason after Sunday's win with the conference tournament upcoming next weekend here at Warrior Stadium.

The top seeded Warriors will face either Cal State L.A. or UC San Diego Friday at 7 p.m. Sonoma State and Cal State San Bernardino will face-off in the other semifinal game at 4:30 p.m.
