PULLMAN, Wash. – Senior midfielder Carly Dobratz scored two goals and Washington State defeated Weber State 4-0 at Lower Soccer Field, Friday in nonconference women’s soccer.
The victory was the fourth-straight for Washington State (7-2-0) while Weber State (4-4-0) lost for the fourth-consecutive match in front of a crowd of 747.
“Anytime you play in front of a big crowd at home and you can give them something to cheer about, it’s a great day,” WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. “We are very excited for the win. Now we have to start getting ready to play a high-quality opponent in Portland.”
Junior defender Ashley Johnson gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Sophomore Jacquelyn Roth sent a cross from the left into the box where freshman forward Brandi Vega fired the ball toward the goal. Johnson was on the doorstep and poked the ball past a Wildcats’ defender and goalkeeper Rebecca Ritchie.
Less the four minutes later, freshman midfielder Melanie Johnston’s shot hit the crossbar and senior forward Kiersten Dallstream found the open net on the rebound to put WSU on top 2-0.
In the 26th minute, Roth sent a cross into the box and Dobratz beat Ritchie high from six yards out for a 3-0 halftime advantage. In the 69th minute, Dobratz’s cross from the right side deflected off a Weber State defender and trickled across the goalline to account for the final goal of the day.
