Wehan, Beaulieu Sweep C-USA Weekly Awards

September 14, 2015

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Chris Wehan and Jason Beaulieu of the University of New Mexico men's soccer team swept Conference USA's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Awards, respectively, this week the conference office announced Monday. They were instrumental in UNM's 2-0 weekend road trip through southern California.
Wehan, who was the consensus National Player of the Week last week, continued his roll by recording the game-winning goal in both matches. He converted a penalty in the 96th minute to give the Lobos a 1-0 victory at CSUN Friday night. On Sunday at No. 19 LMU, in the 77th minute he scored on a free kick from 30 yards out just two minutes after Nick Rochowski had tied the match to put UNM ahead for good as the Lobos handed the Lions their first loss of the season.
Beaulieu earned his first shutout of the season Friday by making three saves, all in the first half, against the Matadors. He was more active Sunday against the Lions as he was called on to make five stops, including one in the final seconds. With the Lions pressing for the equalizer, an LMU player attempted an audacious bicycle kick in the box, but Beaulieu lunged to his right to get a hand on it and keep UNM in front with just 30 seconds remaining. It is his second Defensive Player of the Week Award this season.
The Lobos return to Albuquerque this weekend for the TLC Plumbing & Utility Invitational. UNM hosts Missouri State Friday night at 7, and on Sunday the Lobos will face off with No. 30 American at 6 p.m.
