Wesleyan Men subdue Concord
Athens, W.Va. -- Men’s Soccer needed overtime to snatch a 2-1 win against Concord on Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcat’s opened the scoring 22 minutes into game through senior Joe Ferraracci assisted by sophomore Jordan Halpern.
It looked like Wesleyan were going to make it to half with the 1-0 advantage, but Concord with just 50 seconds left in the first half, grabbed the equalizer through a well-placed header from Ryan Forde.
The second half was scoreless forcing the game to go into overtime. Bobcat’s sealed the win 8 minutes into the first period of overtime through Alex Zidani strike.
Wesleyan were dominant recording 22 shots to the Mountain Lions 6, with Jordan Halpern totaling the game high of 7 shots with 3 on target. The Bobcat’s also outscored the Mountain Lions 9-2 on corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Derek Ayers was only called into action once, after replacing Luka Pauk in net at the beginning of the second half. The Bobcat’s forced 7 saves from Concords goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson.
The Bobcat’s are now 2-1-1 for the season and travel to Slippery Rock Tuesday September 17 for a 1:30pm kick-off.
