Women’s Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision To RMU

October 29, 2017

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's soccer team fell to Robert Morris in its regular season finale, as the Seahawks dropped a 3-0 decision in a game that was shortened due to heavy rain and flooding at Hameline Field and called after 70 minutes.

The Seahawks honored their three seniors, goalie Kaitlin Flaherty (Southfield, MI / Wylie Groves), along with defenders Jessica Donnelly (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan), and Amanda Buck (Bay Shore, NY / Islip), in a ceremony prior to today's kickoff.

With the loss, the Green and White finishes its season at 3-12-3 and 0-7-1, while the Colonials wrap up their 2017 campaign with a 6-11 record and a 4-4 Northeast Conference (NEC) mark.
The Seahawks had two promising opportunities in the first half on free kicks by sophomore Autumn Clark (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Pine Crest Prep). Seven minutes into the contest, Clark's free kick was headed on goal by junior Peyton Beck (St. Louis, MO / Webster Groves), but her attempt sailed just wide.

With five minutes remaining in the first period, Clark gave it a try from 30 yards out, but her sharp shot deflected off the crossbar.

Robert Morris took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Erin Ritzer and Kristina Kelley and opened up the second period with a goal by Jane Schleicher.

Clark was tied for the team lead with four shots, while freshman forward Mya Donnelly (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) also had four attempts on net. As a team, the Green and White combined for 12 attempts throughout the contest.

Defensively, Flaherty made an excellent eight saves in her last appearance as a Seahawk, saving multiple close range opportunities in the first period.

Wagner has failed to qualify for the NEC Postseason Tournament, which will start next Friday, November 3.
