Women’s Soccer Opens 2011 Season With 1-0 Setback Against Keene State
The Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team opened the 2011 season with a 1-0 setback against Keene State in a non-conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Thursday evening.
The two teams traded early opportunities before Keene State got on the board at the 15:45 mark when sophomore Joan Hamel (Weare, N.H.) put in a rebounded shot from freshman Kelly Burrell (Cumberland, Maine) to take the 1-0 lead. The visiting Owls took the one goal advantage into halftime after outshooting JWU by a 7-3 margin.
The Wildcats responded in the second half and had several quality scoring opportunities, but couldn't convert as Keene State held on for the 1-0 victory
Sophomore Kara Collins (Arlington, N.J.) made six saves in the loss for Johnson & Wales while senior Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) had four stops for Keene State.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 0-1 while Keene State is 1-0 for the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Sunday, September 4th when they host Castleton State in a non-conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
