NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team fell 5-2 to Northern Kentucky in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Saturday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The newcomers to the A-Sun appeared on the scoreboard early after a free kick set-up Megan Frye to knock in the goal in the first minute of action.

Striking again in the sixth minute Marie Silbersack made a move in front of the goal to push the Norse (6-11-0, 3-6-0 ASUN) lead to 2-0.

“It was a tough night tonight,” Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “I thought NKU from the onset of the game was the sharper, more proactive team. They won all of the second balls and were great in transition.

“It is disappointing because we wanted to honor the seniors in a way that would have been special. It wasn’t our night tonight.”

The Bisons (2-11-4, 0-7-2 ASUN) jumped on the scoreboard in the 66th minute as Molly Bray struck the fourth goal of her freshman season. Bray hit the shot from 20 yards out off a free kick.

Both teams traded second-half own goals while Silbersack and Frye put the game out of reach for NKU as each scored a tally in the final 45 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Zerio made 11 saves for the Bisons to push her into 7th place all-time in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

With the end of the season, the careers of Zerio, TaylorAnn Summers, Andie Thornton, Kameron Stilwell and Martika Powe will come to a close, having exhausted their eligibility.

“I just want to thank the seniors for all they have given to this program,” O’Brien said. “They were awesome to have to coach and train, even for the short time I did get to know them. Thank you to them and their families for supporting Lipscomb soccer.”
