Women's Soccer Shut Out in Season Opener
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena Women’s Soccer kicked off the program’s 35th season Friday with a 3-0 loss to Holy Cross at Siena Field. Sophomore back and Preseason All-MAAC selection Tara Sobierajski led the Saints with three shots.
Aly Spencer tallied the decisive goal for Holy Cross just under seven minutes into the contest. Caitlin Harty added a goal right before the break and Annie Galvin contributed an insurance tally in the waning minutes for the Crusaders which had scored just six total goals in 18 matches all of last season.
Holy Cross out-shot the Saints 14-10, although Siena held an 8-2 advantage in corners. Freshmen Kelsey Horst and Michele Tremblay had strong collegiate debuts for the Saints. Each attempted two shots, putting one on target.
Carly McCabe made three saves to post the shutout for Holy Cross, while Taylor Booth stopped two shots for the Saints which suffered just their third non-conference home defeat since 2007.
The Saints will look to bounce back Sunday when they hit the road for the first time for a 1 p.m. kickoff at UMass-Lowell.
