Women's Soccer Tested on Road, Open Season w

September 5, 2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In just the second ever meeting between the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team and Bellarmine University (Ky.), the Panthers kicked off the 2013 season with a 1-1 tie in double overtime at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

With just six shots combined between the two teams in the first half, the Panthers and Knights struggled to get the offense going and the period ended knotted at 0-0.

ODU struck first as junior Broegan Sautter (Bellville, Ohio) connected off a rebound and sent the ball flying back into the net at the 72:36 mark to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead late in the second half.

However, just over three minutes later, the Knights found the equalizer as a well-played ball through ODU's defense found Abby Janszen, who connected with McKenzie Combs in the box for a goal to the lower side of the net.

Despite several opportunities for both teams during the two overtime periods, the strong defenses prevented either team to take advantage, and the opener ended in a draw at 1-1.

"Bellarmine was a very tough test and I am proud of the team and effort they gave tonight," said Panther Head Coach Jonathan Meade. "I am very proud of their performance to secure the tie on the road."

The Panther remain on the road this weekend, heading to Southern Indiana on Saturday, September 7 for a noon nonconference matchup with the Screaming Eagles.
