Washington headed into the Big Ten final with heavy hearts after teammate Mia Hamant passed away hours after the semifinal victory due to complications from her battle with cancer.
In the face of this loss, it was fitting that Ijams, a goalkeeper just as Hamant was, starred with a career-high six saves through overtime of a 1-1 draw with Michigan State. Drawing further inspiration, the California native then elevated her play with two penalty stops to secure the regular and postseason Big Ten conference double.
