Woodson Breaks Record in UW-W Win

October 3, 2015

Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) set the school record for career assists in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team's 4-2 win over UW-River Falls Saturday in River Falls. Woodson broke the six year old record, previously held by Becky Cera, after registering her 29th career assist on the Warhawks' first goal of the match. The 20th ranked Warhawks improve to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. This was the eighth straight time the Warhawks have defeated UW-River Falls, 4-6-1 overall and 0-3 in the WIAC, and their 31st consecutive WIAC regular season win.

It didn't take long for the Warhawks to get on the scoreboard, and for Woodson to break the record. Just 45 seconds into the match Woodson found Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) for a 1-0 lead.

Eleven minutes later Pottle added her second goal of the match, this time scoring on a pass fromBrianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek). Pottle has scored eight goals this season and they always come in pairs. She scored two goals against each of MSOE, Wittenberg, Loras and River Falls.

Adria Schueler (Wales, Wis./Mukwonago) almost made it 3-0 in the 21st minute when she put a shot on goal, but Falcon goalkeeper Erica Cimochowski was there to make the stop. Reid also had a chance in the 28th minute but her shot hit the post.

River Falls cut the lead in half in the 29th minute and the score remained 2-1 all the way to halftime.

The Falcons and Warhawks each had the same mentality to start the second half … be aggressive. Both teams earned a corner and fired a shot on goal less than five minutes into the half.

Reid broke through with her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 51st minute, scoring on a pass from Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South).

Payton DeLuga (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown), a freshman defender, made it 4-1 when she scored her first collegiate goal in the 54th minute of play. Schueler assisted on the goal.

The remainder of the match was fairly balanced. The Warhawks notched six shots while the Falcons tallied seven. UW-RF's final shot of the match resulted in a goal and the game ended with the score of 4-2.

Erin Doody (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) made five saves for the Warhawks who outshot their opponent 18-15. Doody, a freshman, has started every match for the Warhawks and holds a 9-2 record.

UW-Whitewater, the winners of five in a row, will be back in action on Tuesday, October 6 when they travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on Carthage at 4:30 pm.
