Wright State women defeat Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. – The Wright State women’s soccer team picked up an overtime victory on Sunday afternoon at Detroit to close out the regular season. Bekah Bonny scored with just under two-minutes to go in the overtime period and Meghan Hackerson made five saves to give WSU their first victory at Detroit since 2003.
The Green and Gold would play a scoreless match with the Titans through regulation, with each squad peppering the opposing goalkeeper with shots. The Raiders took six of their nine shots on goal in the first 90-minutes, while Detroit had five of their ten shots find their way on net.
In the overtime period, WSU launched all four shots and in the 98th minute Bonny connected with the golden goal from five yards out. Jazmine Galbreath sent a crossing pass into the box that found its way through traffic to Bonny’s foot. The sophomore controlled the ball and slipped the shots into the left side of the net to give WSU their 11th win of the year.
In the match, WSU held a 13-10 edge in shots – including an eight-to-five edge in shots on goal – and took three corner kicks in the contest. All six players that took shots for Wright State recorded at least one shot on goal in the 98:30 played versus Detroit.
Hackerson pushed her regular season goals against average to 0.70 (13 goals in 19 matches) and owns a 0.38 GAA in Horizon League play. Bonny netted her third goal of the league season , two of those match winners, while Galbreath recorded her first assist of the season in the match.
The senior class of Nicole Amador, Megan Bush and Kristi Brendlinger become the winningest group of players to come through the women’s soccer program with 47 wins over their four seasons. Hackerson needs one more shutout to tie the season single record of nine (Leigh Ann Brown, 1991) and break the career mark of 23.5 (Steph Comisar, 2003-06).
The Raiders end the regular season with an 11-6-2 mark overall and set a new school record for Horizon League wins in a season, finishing with a 6-2-0 mark against league foes. WSU’s net match will be played on Friday, November, 6 against the highest remaining seed after the first round of the Horizon League Tournament. The Raiders are the #2 seed heading into the league tournament, their highest seed since winning the regular season title in 1999.
