MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 12 West Virginia University men’s soccer team extended its nation leading home winning streak to 13 matches with a 3-1 victory over Duquesne in front of 1,077 fans on Sunday afternoon at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

“It’s not about winning games, it’s more about doing things the way it’s supposed to be done and we were in complete control of the game,” coach Marlon LeBlanc says. “We dominated the two games this weekend and we switched off for half a second and gave up two goals.

“The message to the guys is that better teams are going to pick up a lot of energy off of that, with a 2-0 lead and then you give up a goal, now it’s a dog fight for the rest of the game. With that being said, credit our guys for getting the next one. I thought we started the second half slow, we need to get better and I’m glad we are learning these lessons now.”

Much like Friday’s victory over Richmond, WVU (4-2-1) dominated play the entire afternoon, outshooting Duquesne (2-4-1) 15-8 and also holding a 10-2 corner kick advantage.

The game was also chippy with a total of five cards given out, including four to Duquesne. Duquesne had 13 fouls compared to WVU’s 12.

Juniors Peabo Doue and Shadow Sebele each scored goals for the second time in as many games and senior Uzi Tayou added a second half insurance goal for the second of his career. Sebele also had two assists for a four point afternoon.

Doue struck in the 17th minute after the Mountaineers drew a foul deep in Duquesne territory. Sebele took the free kick from around the corner kick area and junior Eric Schoenle was able to flick it to Doue who had an easy finish right in front of the net.

Sebele extended the lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute with a free kick from the right side of the box about 25 yards away. Sebele was able to bend the left-footed shot past a diving Colin Thorp, Duquesne’s keeper.

Sean Gardner scored Duquesne’s lone goal in the 52nd minute after Adam Clement played a through ball to the head of Gardner. Gardner flicked the ball and it looked to be wide right, however, the spin redirected into the back of the net.

Tayou put the game out of reach in the 60th off a corner kick by Sebele from the far side of the field. Freshman Andy Bevin drew the corner kick by kicking the ball off a Duquesne defender and Sebele played the ball to the far post for a tap-in past Thorp.

WVU will be back in action to start BIG EAST play on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 3:30 p.m. The game will be nationally broadcasted on CBS Sports Network and has been designated as a “Dollar Day” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for just one dollar each.
