Wyoming finalizes coaching staff

March 21, 2012
Wyoming Cowgirl soccer head coach Pete Cuadrado announced Tuesday he had finalized his coaching staff with the hiring of Matt Fannon. Fannon joins the Cowgirl program after spending two seasons at Regis University in Denver, Colo.

“We are really excited to have Matt join our staff,” Cuadrado said. “He has coached and played at a high level. He brings a lot of energy and quality to our program.”

Fannon, a native of York, England, joins Cowgirl soccer after spending two seasons as an assistant men’s coach at Regis. In 2011, he helped lead the Rangers to a 13-4-1 (.750) overall record. The previous season he helped coach the squad to a 14-3-4 (.762) record and its first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. One of Fannon’s responsibilities was to work with Regis' goal keepers, a duty he will continue at UW. While in Denver, Fannon also worked as the Challenger Sports Regional Director for Wyoming, New Mexico, Utah and Mexico. Additionally, he had coached the Broomfield Blast high school-aged girls’ teams since 2009.

Fannon graduated and played collegiately at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W. Va., and was a captain for the Senators. At Davis & Elkins he earned first team all-conference and all-region honors each season, while helping lead the team to a 17-5 (.772) finish, its best record in 25 seasons. Prior to Davis & Elkins he played one season at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

“I am very happy to join such a great Wyoming program,” Fannon said. “This is already a great coaching staff and I am happy to get the chance to work with Pete and Levi.”

Fannon graduated Davis & Elkins College with a bachelor’s of science in physical education in 2008. He has his NSCAA Premier Diploma and also earned his Football Association Coaching Certificate in England in 2002.
