NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University junior forward Yannick Smith (Hillsborough, NJ.) scored two goals to lead the Monarchs (6-2/2-1) to a 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association win over VCU (6-5/1-2) Wednesday night. Sophomore Tim Hopkinson added a goal and an assist for the 21st ranked Monarchs.
Midway in the first half Smith got a serve from sophomore forward Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) and hit it into the left side for the Monarchs first goal.
ODU took a 2-0 lead with less than 10 minutes left as Hopkinson was fouled in the box and scored on the penalty kick. Smith added his second goal off a break by sophomore midfielder Gideon Asante (Sunyani, Ghana) who fed him in front of the net where Smith pushed by the keeper.
The Monarchs fourth goal came with 1:12 left in the match as Jordan LeBlanc nailed an unassisted free kick.
