George Campbell (McDonogh School, Owings Mills, Md.) and Clare Shea (Northern Highlands Regional High School, Allendale, N.J.) were named the NSCAA High School Players of the Year this week.

The two standouts were honored as part of NSCAA's year-end rewards haul that honored the best from NCAA Division II down through the youth ranks. Both Campbell and Shea were part of state title-winning sides during the recently concluded fall season.

For Campbell, his senior year was merely a continuation of what he's been doing throughout his entire high school. He led McDonogh to a 21-0-1 record - the first unbeaten mark in the prestigious program's history - and to its seventh MIAA A title. He scored 23 goals and tallied 15 assists to earn a raft of awards. He was named the Baltimore Sun Player of the Year, the Gatorade State Player of the Year and is a 2013 NSCAA First Team All-American.

Campbell will head off to play at Maryland next year as one of the most decorated high school players in the state's history.

"George is one of the greatest players to ever play at McDonogh," Eagles coach Steve Nichols recently told the Baltimore Sun. "He has it all — the technical ability, the physical ability, the mental ability to change the game whenever he steps on the field. He can run at people as well as anybody I have ever coached, but also can press and defend as well. He is technically brilliant and has an incredible attitude."

Shea concluded her Northern Highlands career with a bang. The New Jersey power had its winning streak snapped at 65 games this year, but the talented senior midfielder kept the unbeaten streak alive by dragging the team to yet another title. She scored the winner in a 2-1 semifinal win over West Morris and scored again to clinch the title in the finale of her high school career.

Shea finished with 17 goals and six assists this season, but she'll be more fondly remembered for guiding Northern Highlands to an unprecidented record of 89-2-3 over her four-year high school career.
