FAB 50 HS Rankings Update: September 9
One of the most intriguing boys soccer matches of the season is scheduled for Wednesday, but the outcome will have little effect on next week's FAB 50 rankings.
St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.), ranked No. 1 among fall high school programs, is slated to face Berkshire School (Mass.), the nation’s top-ranked prep school program. Since the teams are not chasing the same national No. 1 ranking, the result will do little harm each other’s position. Still, it might be the high school match with the most talent on the field at one time this fall. The two schools have a combined 12 players on the TopDrawerSoccer Fall All-America Watch List.
In the boys FAB 50 rankings, there was little change among the Top 25. However, 11 new teams join the rankings between Nos. 31 and 50. The top newcomer is Northern Durham (N.C.), which is making a strong showing among North Carolina’s Class 4A ranks despite not being a state factor in recent years.
In the girls FAB 50, teams from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio played themselves into a ranking order thanks to the results at the Zionsville Lady Eagle Invitational on the heels of previous local results. Most elite East Coast teams have yet to be challenged, a fact that should start to change this week as New Jersey and New York enters their first full week of play. Also, this week, Good Counsel (Md.) travels to Santa Rosa, Calif., where it has matches against top-ranked Maria Carrillo and Montgomery (Calif.).
