Girls regional polls take postseason stock

Girls soccer is now in full swing along the country's southern belt. That means that the three biggest soccer-playing states - Texas, Florida and California - get to showcase their wares in a showcase that includes just four other states until the spring season starts.

With that in mind, the NSCAA regional girls polls got their second winter update this week. Here's a look at the top 10 contenders from each state this week. Of note: Region II got a pass this week.

Region I

American Heritage rightly holds its top spot in Florida for the second poll thanks to its unimpeded walk through the playoffs. Heritage continues its march through the Florida Class 2A postseason and is just one win away from the state tournament. That was thanks to a shootout win over Benjamin, which sets up a regional final meeting with Miami-MAST Academy on Friday. The winner goes on to Melbourne and the state tourney.

1. American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.)

2. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)

3. Lakeland Christian (Lakeland, Fla.)

4. Melbourne (Melbourne, Fla.)

5. Fleming Island (Orange Park, Fla.)

6. Hagerty (Oviedo, Fla.)

7. Palm Harbor (Palm Harbor, Fla.)

8. Miami Springs (Miami, Fla.)

9. Vero Beach (Vero Beach, Fla.)

10. Cardinal Mooney Catholic (Sarasota, Fla.)

Region III

Plano West kept its top spot in Texas, but the two-time defending champ hasn't had its first loss in 39 games taken into account at the time of this latest poll. That should give way to a new Texas No. 1 in the next poll, but it won't derail the Wolves' push for a district title. McKinney Boyd moved up to No. 2 from No. 9 this week to displace Southlake Carroll, which is now No. 3.

1. Plano West (Plano, Texas)

2. McKinney Boyd (McKinney, Texas)

3. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas)

4. Byron Nelson (Trophy Club, Texas)

5. Frisco (Frisco, Texas)

6. Coppell (Coppell, Texas)

7. Westlake (Austin, Texas)

8. Kingwood (Humble, Texas)

9. Cinco Ranch (Houston, Texas)

10. Mansfield (Mansfield, Texas)

Region IV

Monte Vista, the nation's No. 1, is aiming to make the girls fall and winter year-end No. 1 teams a clean California sweep. Not only that, but a NorCal sweep to boot. Danville is just down the road from Santa Rosa, where two-time fall national champion Maria Carrillo resides. So it goes without saying that unbeaten Monte Vista is holding on to No. 1 in California, Arizona and Hawaii this week. San Diego Parker is Region IV's big mover, hopping from out of the poll to No. 2 this week thanks to a 16-0-2 start to the season.

1. Monte Vista (Danville, Calif.)

2. Parker (San Diego, Calif.)

3. Sunny Hills (Fullerton, Calif.)

4. Harvard Westlake (Studio City, Calif.)

5. San Ramon Valley (Danville, Calif.)

6. Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.)

7. Torrey Pines (San Diego, Calif.)

8. Iolani School (Honolulu, Hawaii)

9. Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo, Calif.)

10. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.)
