It didn't take long for new faces to emerge as the new California boys state and region No. 1 teams.

The first full week of regular season play saw the California-North preseason No. 1 team get held to a draw and the California-South No. 1 team lose to another highly ranked program. After the dust settled, [Torrey Pines ca-m] (Calif.) takes over the California-South regional No. 1 ranking, along with the state No. 1 ranking. [Jesuit ca-m] (Calif.) moves up to the California-North No. 1 position. Torry Pines earned the spot with a 1-0 win over previous SIMA FAB 50 Top 10 team [Cathedral ca-m] (Calif.).

The only other regional No. 1 change took place in Florida boys soccer when [Montverde Academy fl-m] (Fla.) sent a younger high school group to play a varsity match and was upset by a local public school. That result allows [Fletcher fl-m] (Fla.) to inherit the top spot.

All eight girls regional No. 1 teams from last week retained those rankings this week following a collective 13-0-1 showing.
