The second-longest girls soccer win streak in the nation, entering the 2017-18 season, was vanquished -- and with it, the SIMA FAB 50 lost a perennially dominant team in this week's rankings.
Davis (Kaysville, Utah) carried a 45-match win streak into the 2017 season. After opening with a win -- pushing the number to 46, Davis was stunned by Snow Canyon 2-1. That result bounced Davis from this week's SIMA FAB 50, but it's a long season and plenty of time for this three-time defending state champ to win their way back into the rankings. That said, the loss of the team's key players to club soccer, will make a repeat state title quite a task this fall.
Glastonbury (Conn.) holds the nation's longest active girls soccer win streak and undefeated streak, both at 60 matches.
SIMA FAB 50 preseason No. 1 Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.) rolled to three comfortable victories to start the season. In fact, Penn won every match by at least five goals.
On the boys side, there were few results last week, and no change in the Top 25.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Edwardsville (Ill.). Edwardsville, which spent time in the SIMA FAB 50 last year before an early playoff exit, debuted as the No. 3 team in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. With such a lofty ranking in a soccer hotbed, Edwardsville muscled its way to No. 39 this week. ... GIRLS: Norwin (Irwin, Pa.). A loss and a tie by preseason Top 5 teams allowed for a little reshuffling of the Top 10, and Norwin -- after confirming that nine players have committed to college programs -- has moved into the No. 2 spot. This year's preseason was a bit more tricky as the Girls DA have pulled expected players out of the high school ranks, and with it likely changing the trajectory of those programs.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 39 Edwardsville (Ill.) and No. 50 St. Louis University High (St. Louis, Mo.). ... GIRLS: No. 25 Guerin Catholic (Noblesville, Ind.), No. 49 Franklin (Tenn.) and No. 50 Evansville Memorial (Evansville, Ind.)
