The winter season has diminished to merely a trickle of results, while the spring season is finally starting to heat up.

Holiday breaks and scheduling gap between regular season and playoffs led to only a handful of matches involving winter-ranked Texas programs last week, and there was not a single change in the Texas-North or Texas-South regional rankings. That will mean no changes in Tuesday's winter SIMA FAB 50, either. But the start of the 5A and 6A playoffs over the next seven days opens the door for radical rankings move in the not-to-distant future.

Meanwhile, several states started spring play last week, most notably Illinois girls and Virginia boys and girls, which have a combined 37 teams in this week's state and regional rankings.

WINTER NEWS

Sachse (Texas) remains No. 1 in the Texas state and Texas-North regional girls soccer rankings, winning a pair of games last week without its star player, who was pulled into national team training.

Wakeland (Frisco (Texas) and Coppell (Texas) remain in a tight battle for No. 1 in the Texas state and Texas-North region rankings. Both carry undefeated records into the playoffs.

SPRING NEWS

Greenbrier (Evans, Ga.) defended its title at the Regions Border Classic in a week where Georgia flexed its muscle in boys soccer. Not only did Greenbrier win the event that featured visiting programs from Alabama and Tennessee, Tennessee's defending state champ and last year's runner up could only manage a 1-2-1 record against Georgia opponents, while facing only one Georgia state-ranked team, in two events last week.

On the girls side, powerhouse ties seem to be taking center stage. First, Providence (N.C.) and Weddington (Matthew, N.C.) tied in a clash of the state's top-ranked Class 4A and 3A programs two weeks ago. This past week, Virginia state title challengers Stone Bridge and Chantilly tied, as did California section powers Davis and St. Francis, as well as Illinois powers Neuqua Valley and Barrington. In each case, it leaves those programs ranked side-by-side on the state, region and SIMA FAB 50 levels.
