HS: Top teams pushed to limit, but survive
Some of the nation's top teams were pushed to the limit, but didn't break.
In a much-anticpated boys rematch, FAB 50 No. 1 St. Ignatius (Ohio) and No. 2 St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.) played to a 2-2 draw. Girls power Portland Jesuit (Ore.) saw its lengthy win streak turned into an undefeated streak with a draw. Despite the ties, all three teams remain No. 1 in their respective regions. Also, New York girls frontrunners St. Anthony's (N.Y.) and Smithtown West (N.Y.) were both held to ties last week, as was North Carolina boys No. 1 Myers Park (N.C.), Illinois boys title challenger New Trier (Ill.) and girls powers La Salle Academy (R.I.), Peters Township (Pa.), Sacred Heart Academy (Ky.) and Greenwood (Ky.).
Overall, 13 of the 14 region No. 1s from last week remain in the top spot this week. The lone exception is the boys Mid-Atlantic Region, where Salesianum (Del.) took over the No. 1 position this week, 12 days before its showdown with St. Benedict's Prep.
