HS: Weekend wrap, region rankings, June 17
Novi (Mich.) and Marian (Mich.) were ranked Nos. 3 and 2, respectively, in the TopDrawerSoccer preseason state rankings, released in February.
Four months later, they finished 1-2 in Michigan.
State playoffs for girls soccer in Michigan and Wisconsin finished up over the weekend, bringing a close to the 2018-2019 high school season.
Novi completed an undefeated season with a 5-0 Division I state final win over Plymouth (Mich.), which ran Novi's undefeated streak to 35 matches and secured the state's final No. 1 ranking. Marian was pushed to overtime in the Division 2 final before emerging with its third straight state title to secure the state's No. 2 spot.
In Wisconsin, Oregon (Wis.) edged Whitefish Bay (Wis.) in penalty kicks following a 1-1 match in the Division 2 final between the teams that entered the event ranked No. 1 and 2 in the state.
