HS: Winter FAB 50 Dec. 26
Most winter-playing teams have extended holiday breaks this time of year, but a few noteworthy tournaments keeps a few teams in action.
Last week, Monte Vista (Calif.) girls went 3-0 at the Tri-Valley Classic, which has been a staple event for top NorCal teams. Santa Barbara (Calif.) boys won the South Torrance Tournament to retain its Top 25 ranking.
This week, the AZ Showcase for boys and girls and Excalibur for girls take center stage as the nation's key events, and the results at all three will have some FAB 50 affect.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: El Camino Real (Woodland Hills, Calif.). El Camino Real moved up 13 spots to crack the Top 25 this week. As long as this perennial Los Angeles City Section power conitnues to win, it should move up in the rankings. ... GIRLS: Newsome (Lithia, Fla.). No team moved more than five spots this week, but one of those teams were Newsome. At 13-0 Newsome heads into the holiday break with a perfect record and the team is set up for a high FAB 50 finish in the wins continue in January and early February.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 44 San Luis Obispo (Calif.), No. 45 Fremont (Sunnyvale, Calif.), No. 47 Millikan (Long Beach, Calif.), No. 48 Melbourne (Fla.) and No. 50 Spruce Creek (Port Orange, Fla.). ... GIRLS: No. 47 Lewisville (Texas), No. 48 Punahou (Honolulu, Hawaii), No. 49 Chino Hills (Calif.) and No. 50 Lourdes (Miami, Fla.).
