BIG MOVERS -- BOYS: Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.). Although Buchanan moved only six spots -- from No. 17 to No. 11 -- it puts the team on the doorstep of a possible national title run. Buchanan has won one key this season and next up is the Lotto Western Showcase. A win there would mean a Top 10 ranking behind a number of Texas schools, which had yet to start. GIRLS: Torrey Pines (San Diego, Calif). Although Torrey Pines opened the season against an unranked opponent, the team's 5-0 victory coupled with other happenings in San Diego helped this program vault from No. 43 to No. 20 this week.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 13 Godinez (Santa Ana, Calif.), No. 20 Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos, Calif.), No. 26 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), No. 38 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), No. 45 [Ferguson fl-m] (Miami, Fla.), No. 46 Richmond (Richmond, Calif.), No. 47 Northwest Rankin (Flowood, Miss.) and No. 50 Palm Beach Central (Wellington, Fla.). GIRLS: No. 23 Episcopal School of Dallas (Dallas, Texas), No. 37 Steele Canyon (Spring Valley, Calif.), No. 38 Bishop Lynch (Dallas, Texas), No. 39 Scripps Ranch (San Diego, Calif.), No. 41 San Juan Hills (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), No. 43 Great Oak (Temecula, Calif.) and No. 48 [Xavier College Preparatory az-w] (Phoenix, Ariz.).
LOOKING AHEAD: -- BOYS: This week's Lotto Western Showcase at San Clemente (San Clemente, Calif.) features eight SIMA FAB 50 teams. The winner of this year's event likely will be ranked somewhere in or near the Top 5, putting it in position to make a run at the SIMA FAB 50 national title. GIRLS: Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) is playing host to a girls soccer event that is bringing together many of the top programs from North and Central Florida. Results from this three-day event likely will shape the Florida-North rankings for the rest of the season.
