Another week filled with holiday tournament play helped several teams improve their state and regional standings this week.

Here's a look at some of the week's big winners:

BOYS

Homestead (Cupertino, Calif.) edged Watsonville (Watsonville, Calif.) in a shootout to capture the Homestead Christmas Cup in a meeting between SIMA FAB 50-ranked teams. Homestead's victory vaults the team to No. 1 in the California-North rankings.

Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.) used a goal by Nomar Ibarra to fend off host De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 1-0 to complete an undefeated showing at the De La Salle Showcase. The victory helped the Phantoms remain No. 1 in the California-South region rankings.

GIRLS

[Edison ca-w] (Huntington Beach, Calif.) upended Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) in a penalty kicks to capture the Aliso Cup last Monday. The result pushes Edison into the California-South region Top 5.

Santa Margarita (Rancho SM, Calif.) cruised to the San Marcos Holiday Classic title; Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos, Calif.) won the Mater Dei Premier Invitational; and St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park, Fla.) won the inaugural North Florida High School Showcase to improve their state and regional rankings this week.
