HS: Winter state, region rankings, Jan. 8
It didn't take long before the Texas rankings got a complete overhaul.
The first weekend of UIL play led to new No. 1s in both Texas-North boys and girls regions and the Texas-South girls region. In both cases, that means new state No. 1s in the Lone Star State, as well.
Strong showings by Southlake Carroll (Texas) girls and McKinney Boyd (Texas) boys allowed those teams to take over the state No. 1 positions.
There was one other regional No. 1 change this week as Madison Central (Miss.) boys stunned St. Paul's (La.), leading to undefeated Tupelo (Miss.) climbing back to No. 1 in the Southeast boys region.
