St. Ig, Lakota West secure region No. 1s
St. Ignatius (Ohio) boys closed out a coast-to-coast No. 1 run in Ohio and the Mid-East region, while Lakota West (Ohio) girls secured their first-ever state and region No. 1 ranking with state titles over the weekend.
St. Ignatius brought the Ohio high school season to an end wih a 4-0 win over SIMA FAB 50-ranked Olentangy Liberty (Ohio) on Sunday night. A day earlier, Lakota West junior superstar Kailyn Dudukovich scored goals No. 49 and 50 on the season as the Firebirds defeated Anthony Wayne (Ohio) 2-1 in a clash of undefeated Top 10-ranked teams. Dudukovich's game-winner came with 13 seconds remaining.
Last week's playoff action allowed Noblesville (Ind.) girls and Zionsville (Ind.) boys to secure regional No. 1 seasons a week after winning state titles. Also, Albuquerque (N.M.) boys clinched a region No. 1 ranking with a state title, capping a 21-0 season.
