TopDrawerSoccer is pleased to unveil the Spring High School Best XI, featuring the top players from the latest prep soccer seasons. Only athletes from states that sanctioned at least one high school game between January and June qualified for the list. The criteria used to evaluate the candidates considered several factors, including post-season honors, trophies won, individual accomplishments, impact on winning, and the difficulty level of the respective league and classification.
With that said, here are the First, Second, and Third team Best XIs and any honorable mentions who fell on the outside.
First Team Best XI
GK: Xeyana Salanoa (Punahou School, Hawaii) - Despite the Hawaii soccer season only spanning 13 games, Salanoa managed an outsized impact with eight clean sheets to lead Punahou to a third consecutive state championship. The 5-foot-9 Western Oregon commit looked straight up unbeatable at times.
D: Teagan Myers (Fossil Ridge, Colorado) - The Colorado High School scene is rich with talent, yet Myers stood above all as a 5-foot-7 center back leading the Sabercats to their first-ever state championship. Not only did the Kentucky commit pace a backline that conceded just 13 in 20 matches, she also scored the lone goal in the state championship victory.
D: Mackenzie Vanags (Deep Run, Virginia) - For context on how outstanding Vanags was in the Deep Run backline, consider that the Wildcats conceded just THREE goals in 22 matches to win a Virginia 6A Championship. To dominate a state’s highest classification to that degree is deserving of every accolade in the book.
D: Elsa Maurer (Muskego, Wisconsin) - Wisconsin boils down the All-State team to one comprehensive list, and of the eleven players on the First Team, Maurer was the only defender. That came after helping Muskego to a fourth consecutive state championship, this time conceding eight in a 23-game undefeated season.
M: Giovanna Waksman (Pine School, Florida) - Some statistical outputs are so otherworldly that they warrant recognition, and Waksman did just that in Florida. In 19 matches, the Brazil U20 international scored 87 and assisted 14 to lead the Knights to the Class 1A final. Incredibly, Waksman still has two high school seasons to play with virtually every professional and collegiate team seeking her signature.
M: Audrey Bryant (Ursuline Academy, Texas) - Bryant, considered one of the best high school players in Texas history, capped off her storied career with 43 goals and 21 assists to lead Ursuline to a third consecutive Texas Private & Parochial Division I state title. The Texas commit proved to be unstoppable time and time again.
M: Madeline DiMaria (Cor Jesu, Missouri) - After making history last season as the first freshman to win the Gatorade National POTY trophy, DiMaria entered her sophomore year with plenty of pressure and gameplanning dedicated to stopping her. That did not matter as the No. 1 ranked prospect in the 2027 class increased her statistical output with 45 goals and 19 assists in 23 games, leading Cor Jesu to a second straight Missouri state championship.
M: Payton Nutzman (Eastside High School, South Carolina) - Nutzman was a no-brainer for the list as the rare talent who combined elite statistical output with high-level clutch play. The Mercer commit scored overtime winners in the state first round and the Elite Eight, then added another two goals in a 3-2 championship victory. In all, the Eastside High School legend finished her season with 35 goals and 14 assists in 22 matches.
F: Sonora De Fini (Gretna East, Nebraska) - As the owner of practically every goal-scoring record in the Nebraska record books, it was always going to be a tall task to beat out DeFini for the first team. The 5-foot-10 scored 44 and assisted ten to lead the Gretna East Griffins to a 20-0 state championship. Those gaudy numbers somehow fall short of the 55 goals and 11 assists the Oklahoma State commit recorded as a champion last spring.
F: Ava Lutke (Unity Christian, Michigan) - The Michigan State commit was the definition of a do-it-all offensive star this season, scoring 29 and assisting another 29 for Unity Christian. That unpredictability on whether Lutke would use her speed and technique to score or set up a teammate led the Crusaders to a 22-0-2 record and third consecutive state title.
F: Leah Henke (Bishop Carroll, Kansas) - It takes an elite talent to break barriers, and Henke proved her credentials with 29 goals and 16 assists to lead the Golden Eagles to their first Kansas state title. A powerful state final header capped off a storybook high school career where the Washburn commit led the program to an undefeated 21-0 championship.
