Winter FAB 50 High School Soccer Team Rankings

The 2020-2021 winter high school season includes the following states: Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The rankings are compiled by high school rankings editor Sheldon Shealer.

1 San Antonio LEE San Antonio, TX 28-1-0
Season Complete. Texas 6A state champion.
School Facts: Public, 2,600 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Coastal Carolina signee Henry Bowland scored the first goal and provided an assist as LEE capped the season with a 2-0 victory over Rockwall-Heath in the Texas 6A state final. Bowland, who was named the game's MVP, assisted Giovani Garcia in the second half. Keeper Joey Batrouni, also a Coastal Carolina signee, recorded the shutout. LEE was 17-0-1 and ranked No. 2 last year when the COVID pandemic shut down the Texas season. LEE, which was the TopDrawerSoccer winter preseason No. 1 team, is 71-4-2 over the past three seasons. Coach David Rogers is now the only coach to guide three different teams to Texas state titles -- Boerne in 1999, Boerne Champion in 2011, and now LEE.
2 Lake Travis Austin, TX 23-1-4
Season Complete. Texas 6A regional runner-up.
School Facts: Public, 3,200 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Lake Travis' undefeated season ended with a shootout loss to San Antonio LEE in the region final, which serves as a state quarterfinal contest. Lake Travis was led by junior standout forward Alex Bethke.
3 Wakeland Frisco, TX 24-1-1
Season Complete. Texas 5A state champion.
School Facts: Public, 2,000 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Brennan Bezdek, Jak Keith, and Micah Kelly scored the goals to carry Wakeland to a 3-2 victory over Kingwood Park in the 5A state final. Bezdek was named the game's MVP. Wakeland has appeared in the last five state finals.
4 Brophy Prep Phoenix, AZ 15-1-1
Season Complete. Arizona Class 6A state champion.
School Facts: Private, all-boys, 1,200 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Brophy Prep claimed a third straight state title with a shootout victory over previously undefeated San Luis in the state final. Regulation ended 1-1. Charlie Cobb, an NCAA Division I prospect, ended the season with 20 goals and 21 assists. His 20th goal of the season pulled Brophy even with San Luis to set up overtime and the eventual winning shootout.
5 San Luis San Luis, AZ 12-1-0
Season Complete. Arizona Class 6A state runner-up.
School Facts: Public, 2,850 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: San Luis' bid for a perfect season ended with a shootout loss to Brophy Prep in the state final. San Luis jumped ahead 1-0 on a goal by sophomore Erick Quirarte. Brophy evened the match late in the second half.
6 Schertz Clemens Schertz, TX 23-1-3
Season Complete. Texas 6A regional quarterfinalist.
School Facts: Public, 2,650 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Clemens' undefeated season ended in a 3-1 loss to San Antonio LEE in the region quarterfinals. LEE and Clemens were the top two-ranked teams in the San Antonio area this season. The squad was led by junior Caleb Callahan, who has committed to Incarnate Word.
7 Arnold Panama City Beach, FL 25-0-2
Season Complete. Florida Class 4A state champion.
School Facts: Public, 1,675 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Arnold was probably the biggest ranking surprise of the year, posting an undefeated season and bring home the first boys soccer state title for the county. Although playing in a mid-sized school classification, Arnold proved its quality with three regular-season wins over Niceville by a combined 11-2 margin. Niceville was the 6A runner-up to FAB 50 No. 8 Doral Academy in a 2-1 match. Arnold outscored its opponents 126-14 this past season. Senior Zack Bischoff has committed to Brevard. Senior Tristan Gandy, a defensive midfielder, was named the Bay County Player of the Year.
8 Doral Academy Doral, FL 10-1-4
Season Complete. Florida Class 6A state champion.
School Facts: Public Charter school, 1,675 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Manuel Cuevo scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute as Doral Academy edged defending state champion Niceville 2-1 in the state final. The victory made Pam McDonald, a former Scottish National Team player, the first female to coach a boys soccer team to a state title in Florida history. She previously had guided Doral to a runner-up finish in 2017.
9 Rockwall-Heath Heath, TX 15-9-5
Season Complete. Texas Class 6A state runner-up.
School Facts: Public, 2,475 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: After weathering a late-season slump that saw the team go 0-4-3, Rockwall-Heath became one of he hottest teams in Texas -- knocking off three FAB 50 opponents before falling to LEE 2-0 in the state final.
10 Allen Allen, TX 20-5-1
Season Complete. Texas Class 6A state semifinalist.
School Facts: Public, 5,400 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Allen was the district runner-up, but a strong postseason showing carrying the Eagles to the state semifinals where it lost in a shootout to Rockwall-Heath.
11 El Paso Eastlake El Paso, TX 17-2-0
Season Complete. Texas Class 6A regional runner-up.
School Facts: Public, 2,245 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Eastlake's bid to make a rare state tournament appearance for an El Paso school ended with a 3-2 loss to Allen. Eastlake defeated FAB 50-ranked Southlake Carroll and Dallas Jesuit to reach the region final.
12 Baton Rouge Catholic Baton Rouge, LA 17-2-0
Season Complete. Louisiana Division I state champion.
School Facts: Private, all-boys, 1,145 students, grades 8-12.
NOTES: Game MVP Alex Leonard broke a scoreless draw in the 90th minute and Kamren Rome added a clincher in extra time as Baton Rouge Catholic upended two-time defending champ St. Paul's 2-0 in overtime in the state final. The win marked Catholic's first soccer state title since 1993, but also marked the 100th state title for the school across all sports.
13 Keller Keller, TX 17-3-0
Season Complete. Texas Class 6A regional semifinalist.
School Facts: Public, 3,000 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Keller's season ended with a 2-1 loss to Allen in the regional semifinals. During the regular season, Keller also lost to Allen and split with FAB 50-ranked Southlake Carroll.
14 St. Paul's Covington, LA 24-4-0
Season Complete. Louisiana Division I state runner-up.
School Facts: Private, all-boys, 850 students, grades 8-12.
NOTES: St. Paul's bid for a third straight state title ended with a 2-0 overtime loss to Baton Rouge Catholic. The Wolves also lost to Baton Rouge Catholic during the regular season.
15 New Orleans Jesuit New Orleans, LA 18-1-1
Season Complete. Louisiana Division I state semifinalist.
School Facts: Private, all-boys, 1,375 students, grades 8-12.
NOTES: New Orleans Jesuit was favored to win the Louisiana state title until getting upset by rival St. Paul's in the semifinals. Jesuit won the regular-season meeting between these perennial powers.
16 Tampa Catholic Tampa, FL 25-2-0
Season Complete. Florida Class 3A state champion.
School Facts: Private, 750 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Led by University of Tampa commit and Florida Mr. Soccer Marcello Valbuena, Tampa Catholic captured the 3A title with a 4-2 win over Westminster Christian. Westminster struck first, but Valbuena countered only 15 seconds later to even the score. Seven minutes after that, he put Tampa Catholic ahead for good as the team eventually built a 4-1 lead. Early in the season, Tampa Catholic lost to local rival and power Tampa Jesuit, but a month later Tampa Catholic routed Gulf Coast, which won the 7A crown over Plant, which had beat 5A champ Belen Jesuit, which edged Tampa Jesuit in the state final.
17 Casteel Queen Creek, AZ 18-1-0
Season Complete. Arizona Class 5A state champion.
School Facts: Public, 2,900 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Junior forward Ethan Calimpong scored three goals as Casteel routed Ironwood 8-2 in the 5A state final. Casteel rolled out to a 4-0 halftime lead as the outcome was never in doubt.
18 Gulf Coast Naples, FL 20-3-2
Season Complete. Florida Class 7A state champion.
School Facts: Public, 2,360 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Sophomore Marcello Maffei scored late in the first overtime session to lift Gulf Coast to a 1-0 victory over Plant in the 7A state final. On the way to the state title, Gulf Coast twice defeated perennial state power Cypress Bay. The team did suffer a 4-0 setback to 3A state champ Tampa Catholic.
19 Plant Tampa, FL 18-4-1
Season Complete. Florida Class 7A state runner-up.
School Facts: Public, 2,500 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Plant fell to Gulf Coast 1-0 in the 7A state final. On the way to the title match, Plant edged FAB 50 Top 25-ranked Lake Mary in the state semifinals. During the regular season, Plant defeated eventual 5A champ Belen Jesuit 1-0.
20 Belen Jesuit Miami, FL 18-3-1
Season Complete. Florida Class 5A state champion.
School Facts: Private, all-boys, 1,375 students, grades 6-12.
NOTES: Stefano Naos scored on a follow-up in the second overtime session as Belen Jesuit edged Tampa Jesuit in the 5A state final. Belen Jesuit fell behind in the first half, but Matias Perinot tied the match at 1 in the 60th minute.
21 Tampa Jesuit Tampa, FL 17-2-2
Season Complete. Florida Class 5A state runner-up.
School Facts: Private, all-boys, 800 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Tampa Jesuit's bid for a second straight title came up short in a 2-1 loss to Belen Jesuit. Ty Cabassa gave Tampa Jesuit a 1-0 lead in the first half before Belen Jesuit tied it in the second half, setting up overtime.
22 Boerne Boerne, TX 22-1-1
Season Complete. Texas 4A state champion.
School Facts: Public, 1,135 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Boerne defeated Diamond Hill Jarvis 3-1 in the state final, marking the program's first state title since 2006. FAB 50 No. 1 San Antonio LEE was the only team to defeat Boerne this year in what proved to be a strong showing by the San Antonio programs.
23 Jersey Village Houston, TX 11-4-4
Season Complete. Texas 6A state semifinalist.
School Facts: Public, 3,520 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Jersey Village upset Alief Elsik in the regional semifinals, then beat Tompkins for the regional title before losing to San Antonio LEE in the state semifinals.
24 Alief Elsik Houston, TX 18-2-4
Season Complete. Texas 6A regional semifinalist.
School Facts: Public, 4,250 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Alief Elsik appeared on the way to a state semifinal clash with San Antonio LEE before getting upset by Jeresy Village in the regional semifinals.
25 Lake Mary Lake Mary, FL 21-3-1
Season Complete. Florida Class 7A state semifinalist.
School Facts: Public, 2,900 students, grades 9-12.
NOTES: Lake Mary lost to Plant in the state semifinals. Lake Mary lost two matches during the season as a third loss was credited by way of forfeit. The Rams had a win over Lakeland Christian, which lost to Top 25-ranked Tampa Catholic in what amounted to the 3A state quarterfinals.
