Rank School Record
1 Davis Kaysville, UT 0-0-0
With five NCAA Division I commits returning from last year's undefeated, SIMA FAB 50 No. 2 team, Davis takes the logical step into No. 1 this season. BYU commits Mikayla Colohan and Olivia Wade combined for 49 goals and 59 assists last season. Other commits include Kendyl Baker to Loyola Marymount, Ellie Robinson to Southern Utah and Hailee Atwater to Utah Valley.
2 Northern Highlands Allendale, NJ 0-0-0
The preseason top three teams in New Jersey could be on collision course. Northern Highlands and Immaculate Heart Academy could face off in the county tournament, and Northern Highlands is in the same playoff group with Colts Neck. The Highlanders are led by Notre Dame commit Eva Hurm. Julia Homan is expected to anchor the defense.
3 Brebeuf Jesuit Indianapolis, IN 0-0-0
Michigan commit Alia Martin highlights the roster for defending state champion Brebeuf Jesuit, which is coming off a 22-2-1 season by a team built around underclassmen. Forward Ryanne Brown has committed to Wake Forest, but is injured and her status this season is in question. The Braves' lineup also features defender Hallie Pearson, a junior who has committed to Arizona.
4 Colts Neck Colts Neck, NJ 0-0-0
Frankie Tagliaferri, the TeamSnap National Fall Player of the Year last season, is expected to return, however, her national team commitments might severely cut into her high school availability. When Tagliaferi, a Penn State commit, was out last year, the team was able to turn to Bridgette King for offense. King, along with all-state picks Amanda Visco and Alison Russo, have since graduated. The team might rely more on midfielder Kayla Lee and goalkeeper Lauren Fester this season, who were both third-team all-Group 3 performers last year.
5 Penn Mishawaka, IN 0-0-0
Penn projects nine players returning from last year's 21-1-2 team, including Florida State commit Kristina Lynch, a forward, and Northwestern commit Mackenzie Wood, a goalkeeper. Both are juniors. In addition, Brooke VanDyck is expected back after earning all-district first-team honors as a freshman in 2015.
6 Walsh Jesuit Cuyahoga Falls, OH 0-0-0
Wake Forest commit Sofia Rossi returns to highlight a Walsh Jesuit roster that features 18 returning players from last year's undefeated state title-winning team. Rossi was the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Ohio state Player of the Year last fall. Walsh Jesuit carries a 91-match undefeated streak into the 2016 season.
7 Issaquah Issaquah, WA 0-0-0
Issaquah went 16-2-2 last year and returns several key players, led by Washington commits Kaylene Pang and Claudia Longo. Pang was part of the Eastside FC Under-17 team that qualified for the US Youth Soccer national championships this summer.
8 Houston Germantown, TN 0-0-0
Mississippi commit Paola Ellis leads the returnees for defending state champion Houston, which went 22-0 last year and is an easy preseason state No. 1 choice in 2016. All three goal scorers in Houston's state final victory were underclassman, and for good measure, so was the keeper, Kaylee Hammer, who recorded the shutout. Hammer and defender Katrina Ostrom and Ellis were Houston's three underclass all-state honorees last year.
9 McDonogh School Owings Mills, MD 0-0-0
After back-to-back perfect seasons and a pair of SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 finishes, McDonogh might find itself in a slight rebuilding year. Gone are TeamSnap All-America honorees Bridgette Andrzejewski (North Carolina) and Kia Rankin (NC State), along with several others who helped the program to its current 34 match win streak. Even the return of Auburn commit Kori Locksley is in question. Still, the Eagles remain a favorite in the IAAM with UNC Wilmington commit Marissa Vincent, La Salle commit Jenna Soriano and sophomore Julia Dorsey, who is being courted by some of the nation's top college programs. Forward Lily Stavisky is expected to verbally commit within the month, according to McDonogh's coach.
10 Massapequa Massapequa, NY 0-0-0
Illinois commit Hope Breslin was the New York Coaches Class AA and Newsday Player of the Year last season after guiding Massapequa to a record-setting third straight large school state title. Breslin scored 28 goals in the state's toughest conference. Other key returners are junior forward Marisa Fischetti, a Syracuse commit, and sophomores Julia Hannon and Grace Bernardi.
11 Strongsville Strongsville, OH 0-0-0
Cincinnati commits Ali Sidloski and Vanessa Dinardo, both juniors, are expected to carry a talented Strongsville squad. The Mustangs will clash with perennial SIMA FAB 50 Top 25 Maria Carrillo (Calif.) this season.
12 Immaculate Heart Academy Twp. of Washington, NJ 0-0-0
It appears Virginia commit Rebecca Jarrett will not be returning for IHA this fall. The Angels should remain a favorite in the Non-Public Group A playoffs with Julia Rath and Julianna Shrekgast returning from a 17-win team from a year ago.
13 Montclair Montclair, NJ 0-0-0
Montclair's head coach recently stepped down to take a college coaching position, yet this team should remain a New Jersey Group 4 title contender. The team will be led by Boston College commit Jillian Jennings and Miami (Fla.) commit Fiona Tubiana.
14 Montgomery Santa Rosa, CA 0-0-0
The Santa Rosa powers Maria Carrillo and Montgomery have dominated the CIF-North Coast fall scene, combining to win 11 section titles since 2001. Maria Carrillo has rolled off five straight titles, but the pendulum might be swinging back to Montgomery, which last won a section title in 2009. Texas A&M commit Tera Ziemer, a junior, and San Diego State commit Jordan Girman along with Eden Brooker and Izzy Christmann are back after earning all-Empire League honors a year ago.
15 Hunterdon Central Flemington, NJ 0-0-0
A 20-win season seems very doable for a Huntington Central squad that returns three key players: South Carolina commit Luciana Zullo and Bucknell commit Sarah Hazard. It does appear, according to the Star-Ledger, Rutgers commit Gabby Provenzeno is out for the season due to injury.
16 Medina Medina, OH 0-0-0
Despite losing 13 players from last year's 18-1-3 team, Medina remains a solid state title contender. This year's team is led by senior defender Marin Auth, a Washington State commit, and juniors Janiece Joyner, committed to Michigan, and Lily Menssen, committed to Northern Kentucky. Three other projected starters also are receiving Division I interest.
17 Cumberland Valley Mechanicsburg, PA 0-0-0
Led by North Carolina commit Rachael Dorwart, Cumberland Valley again is a favorite in Pennsylvania's Class AAA, which is stacked with quality teams. Dorwart scored 46 goals with 11 assists last season as a sophomore. The Eagles went 24-2 last season. Other key returners include Sydney Bruckner, Kellyanna Hendricks and Brice McInroy.
18 Somers Lincolndale, NY 0-0-0
Somers seemed destined for a lofty national ranking last year until getting upset in the playoffs. Despite graduating Journal News Player of the Year Hannon Eberts, Somers has plenty of returning firepower from last year's 19-1 team. The key returners include senior midfielders Melina Couzis, who is committed to UConn, and Yale commit Ciara Ostrander. Senior Jenna Menta also earned Journal News all-star status.
19 Carmel Carmel, IN 0-0-0
Carmel always finds a way to reload, which is made easier by the fact the school has more than 4,000 students. Fifteen players are expected to return from last year's 15-1-2 squad. Seniors Ali James (Indiana State) and Emily Roberts (Miami, Ohio) and juniors Lucy Lyon (Samford) and Kate Soderstrom (Butler) have made early verbal commitments.
20 Whitman-Hanson Whitman, MA 0-0-0
Whitman-Hanson has plenty of firepower with forward Lauren Bonavita and midfielder Taylor Kofton, both juniors, returning from last year's 21-1 squad. Bonavita has committed to UMass and Kofton has committed to Boston University. Whitman-Hanson's lone loss last year was a playoff setback to eventual undefeated state champion Needham.
21 Maria Carrillo Santa Rosa, CA 0-0-0
The five-time defending CIF North Coast Section champions graduated six all-league players from last year's 20-2-0 squad. The Pumas figure to remain a title challenger, along with Montgomery this season.
22 Glastonbury Glastonbury, CT 0-0-0
Despite the graduation of Hartford Courant Player of the Year Mara Cosentino, Glastonbury figures to again be favored in Connecticut's Class LL bracket. The team returns four Hartford All-Courant honorees, led by defender Danielle Brinckman. Other projected key returners are Eden Baker, Caroline Bogue and Maddie Seymour.
23 Arbor View Las Vegas, NV 0-0-0
Junior Allyssa Larkin, who scored 16 goals and added a team-high 19 assists last season, highlights the returnees for four-time defending state champion Arbor View. All three of Arbor View's first- and second-team Las Vegas Journal-Review honorees were underclassmen, led by first-teamer Larkin. Senior defenders Melanie Ara and Samantha Blanchard were second-team all-state picks.
24 Zionsville Zionsville, IN 0-0-0
A youthful Zionsville squad put together a postseason run that included a win over perennial power and then undefeated Carmel. Forward Erin Patterson, a junior, has committed to Samford. The Eagles will be tested early with a match against Brebeuf Jesuit before competing in the Zionsville Lady Eagle Invitational against some of the top programs in the region.
25 Central Catholic Lawrence, MA 0-0-0
Central Catholic went 16-1-1 last season and expectations are high in 2016. Senior goalkeeper Amanda Fay has committed to Boston University. Junior midfielder Elayna Grillakis has committed to Providence.
