Polytan is the gold standard of field turf
The Polytan difference is in essence comparing the originators versus all the knock-offs that follow. In Europe, they have established for themselves an immovable niche far beyond what their competitors can mimic. And lo, they’ve seen fit to come to the United States!
It’s a bit unfair, really. Not only are they the world leader in FIFA 2-Star Installations (a FIFA 2-Star Installation is the highest field turf rating available and must be renewed annually), but they are headquartered in Germany, a country where soccer is the dominant sport. They breathe, think, produce and study soccer. The Polytan difference, at least in the USA, is that they know exactly what they’re doing and they do it well with a depth and attention to detail that is so far unsurpassed.
{mosimage:300} Josef Langenwalter, CEO of Polytan USA, said, “It’s not just our product that sets us a part from the competition. It’s the philosophy behind the product and the company. That is, to supply the highest possible quality achievable on this planet. We achieve this by being a fully integrated producer and installer of artificial turf.”
Polytan started out 40 years ago as a tennis court and running track sport surface system. When they broke into the soccer market 40 years ago, synthetic turf had barely emerged – there were a few fields here or there in Europe that were beginning to use it, and virtually none in the USA. Since then, they have moved steadily to become the only world-wide company that has shown a FIFA 2-star performance for 4 consecutive years with a systems approval by all international sports governing bodies.
This sports surface company stays ahead of the curve by keeping a finger on all steps of the turf manufacturing and installation process – by being “vertically integrated.” They start by producing their own fibers, stitching the yarn into the carpet, coating the carpet, testing and finally, shipping and installing in-house.
“This is the only real way to guarantee a high quality,” Langenwalter said. “Other places have multiple middlemen. They buy yarn from another company, send it to another place to get it glued and then hire someone to install it. In the end, 4 or 5 companies are involved, more problems generated, and no guarantee of a high quality. We have continuous quality control from the moment we squeeze out the granules, from step A to Z.”
And the balance tipped even further to the favor of the Polytan difference when we discovered that they also try to remain environmentally and player friendly. They created a thermo plastic infill material (in various colors) tailor-made for the soccer field that is totally hazardous free.
They also developed the liga turf cool plus system (liga is German for league). In a top-secret process, they create fibers that reflect the infrared portion of sunlight to prevent the field from heating up. The same top-secret particles are used in the production of the granules used to make the infill. This system is not only totally environmentally friendly but also helps reducing the field temperature for up to 20% and reduces dramatically the amount of water that would be needed to cool the fields down.
While Polytan is making giant leaps in Europe – recently winning a contract from the German Soccer Federation to cover 1,000 mini soccer fields last year, they are newcomers to America having established their own marketing/sales force in the U.S. only last year.
Don’t be fooled. They might be a small player in the U.S. right now, but they are the world’s biggest supplier of soccer turf.
