2012 stars spreading commitments around
December 1, 2011

It’s great to see blue chip recruits spreading the love to programs around the country. Earlier this month, we saw prospects like Mariana Galvan and Nestor Jaramillo hitch their college careers to schools you wouldn’t have necessarily guessed.

That trend continues with news from a pair of 2012 Top 100s players in Christian Duarte and Tommy Granot.

Columbus Crew midfielder Granot, No. 68 in the Top 100, will take his talents to Fordham next season and try to help a solid program take the next step in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Granot is a gifted player on the ball who uses his quick feet well and has no problems taking on defenders. His service in the box and ability to find targets will also be an asset for the Rams who have to be thrilled they landed him.

“I only considered schools that had a unique combination of academics and soccer,” Granot said. “Aside from my home program Ohio State, I didn’t consider many other ones. I visited Fordham a few weeks back and was really impressed with the staff and the program they lead. I can’t wait to join.”

Duarte also raised some eyebrows with his choice of Cal State Bakersfield next fall. The Roadrunners are coming off a season in which they reached the postseason for the first time in program history and getting Duarte is the latest in a string of big victories for the team.

Duarte was in U.S. U17 Residency last year and is a big-time Texas player who we have ranked No. 29 in his class.
