The Girls Academy season wrapped up a few days ago with champions crowned in the remaining age groups. Here are the recaps of how the U14-U17 finals unfolded.

U14 Champions: Indy Premier

After successfully avenging a Champions Cup loss by defeating Lou Fusz in the semi-final, it felt as if Indy Premier was destined to win the Girls Academy trophy. And that proved to be the case despite NEFC taking an early lead on a deflected cross.

Striker Olivia Jones and midfielder Zoey Montgomery are arguably the best duo in youth soccer, and those two lived up to their lofty standards to seal a 2-1 comeback victory. Jones struck first on an early second-half equalizer set up by a lung-busting run from Montgomery. They then switched roles as the goalscorer turned provider on a brilliant ball over the top that was rewarded by a stellar finish.

U15 Champions: TopHat Gold

The U15 final offered a promising clash of the dynamic TopHat Gold front three taking on the formidable Galaxy SC center back trio. In the end, TopHat Gold completed its legendary unbeaten season with a commanding 3-1 victory that left no doubts on who the best Girls Academy team is for the 2010 age group.

After a cagey scoreless first half, TopHat broke the tie when Nyla Brown emphatically headed a pinpoint Ariana Rosario cross. Galaxy SC would then notch an equalizer courtesy of a brilliant Brooke Loudermilk volley into the upper 90. But TopHat quickly regained dominance, specifically Isabelle York, who struck a go-ahead goal on a fantastic long-range strike, then went on an impressive solo run that led to a second goal for Brown.

U16 Champions: Syracuse DA

Finals often come down to which team has the best individual player, and on the day, Penn State commit Alexis Fragnito left no doubts about her credentials as one of the most lethal strikers in the country.  A first-half brace from the 2027 graduate stood as the difference in the 2-0 victory.

The first goal came from a transition moment down the right wing as Fragnito showed an incredible turn of pace to cruise past the defender and bury her shot into the bottom corner. Minutes later, the New York native mirrored her first goal, this time receiving the ball at midfield before blazing past two defenders and finishing with a left-footed shot. A shell-shocked Michigan Jaguars team never recovered and failed to score in the 2-0 defeat.

U17 Champions: Galaxy SC

In a battle of teams who are no strangers to championship matches, Galaxy SC prevailed, handing the STA 08 a Girls Academy final loss for the second straight summer. The thrilling back-and-forth clash ended with a 3-2 scoreline after overtime.

The opening salvo suggested STA might come out as the winners due to several uncharacteristic mistakes from the Galaxy backline. That came to a head early in the second half as a moment of miscommunication allowed Anna Gominiak to give STA the lead on a deflected clearance.

Although the East Coast side did well to maintain that lead for most of the second half, the Midwest team found a late equalizer as a well-placed Gabrielle Smith free kick found center back Peyton Johnson for a back-post header. Capitalizing on that momentum swing, Galaxy SC took an unexpected lead as Emerson Burke won her 1-v-1 duel on the left wing before delivering a perfect square pass for an easy Ivana Vukas finish.

Boasting an undefeated record and a USYNT standout at keeper, it felt as if the final was over once Galaxy SC took the lead that late in the match. It was going to take a world-class moment to beat the incredible Hannah Folliard, and that is what STA star Olivia Robinson delivered with seconds remaining. The winger turned her defender under immense pressure before curling a left-footed shot straight into the upper 90 from the edge of the 18.

With both teams displaying tired legs from their third game in four days, many expected a dull overtime period leading to penalty kicks. But Galaxy midfielder Carolina Capizzi had other plans. The DePaul commit broke free with a clever 1-2 pass to beat the midfield press, followed by a breathtaking through ball to set up a 1-v-1 finish from the speedy Jane Rogers.

That goal sparked the game back to life as STA pushed for another equalizer. Again, it came down to a battle between Robinson and Folliard. This time, the Georgia commit pulled off a magnificent leaping save to deny a rocketed shot destined for the upper 90 from the Penn State commit. The ensuing corner-kick that Folliard punched out of the danger zone was the last real opportunity STA managed. A legendary 08 Galaxy SC group adds a Girls Academy trophy to their USYS national titles from 2022 and 2023.
