Today we unveil our latest update to Grande Sports Academy TeamRank, the comprehensive ranking system for elite club soccer teams nationwide, and we release the latest standings for U16, U17 and U18 Girls. Next week, we will update the younger age groups on the Boys side. We will update our National Top 25 of each age group at least once per month.

New No. 1 at U16

After suffering a 2-0 loss to No. 2 San Diego Surf at the San Diego showcase, Real Colorado’s reign at No. 1 has finally met its end. Real’s triple threat of offensive power on the season, Julie Mackin, Tatum Barton, and Cydney Billups (in the absence of Mallory Pugh), just couldn’t get it done against the home side, and as a result, Real Colorado falls to No. 3 in the Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25.

Surf should have taken over the top spot, but it has an Achilles heel in SoCal rival and No. 15 Slammers, and instead remains at No. 2. Surf only has two losses on the season, both at the hands of the club led by IMG Academy 150 stars Carly Malatskey and Julia Bingham.

So, Santa Rosa United takes over the top spot after earning a draws with Surf and conference rival Mustang in the past month, combined with five notches in the win column, giving SRU a 16-1-4 overall record. Midfielder Taylor Ziemer, who has made an early verbal commitment to Virginia, has combined for 15 goals and 14 assists to lead her squad.

McLean hits top 10 at U17

McLean SA, though idle in ECNL play in April, climbs into the top 10 this month by remaining unbeaten and untied in conference play.

PDA New No. 1 at U18

PDA picked up the spring season where now No. 2 Michigan Hawks left off the fall, with an undefeated record, and with a 6-0-2 record since our last update, PDA emerges as the new No. 1. Virtually the entire starting lineup is in the IMG Academy Top 150, and all are headed to top NCAA Division 1 programs. As a team, PDA has only conceded two goals in conference play while scoring 54, both goals against coming in lopsided wins for the New Jersey side. Michigan Hawks will be shaking off the dust from the high school soccer season come ECNL playoff season, so the No. 1 nod at this point goes to the team from the east coast.

Next Thursday: U13, U14, and U15 Boys

Grande Sports Academy TeamRank is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
