While other new MLS franchises are slow to get academy signings going, Inter Miami has already added three Homegrown signings.

Ian Fray and Edison Azcona both inked deals with Inter Miami, it was announced this week.

“Ian and Edison are two players who were quickly brought to my attention during my short time here, and my impressions of them are very positive. It’s satisfying to be part of continuing their development and helping them reach a level where they can demonstrate readiness to compete and be valuable for the team on a consistent basis,” Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson said in a statement. “It’s important to develop from within, not only for the player and the Club, but for the community too because they will always be part of the Inter Miami family wherever their career takes them in the future.”

Both players saw significant time with Fort Lauderdale in the 2020 USL League One season.

Fray, who had signed with the USL League One team prior to last year, is a center back and No. 80 in the 2021 Boys IMG Academy player rankings. He played in nine games for Fort Lauderdale.

Ranked at No. 27 in the 2022 Boys IMG Academy player rankings, Azcona played 1,284 minutes for Fort Lauderdale, the second-most on the team during the 2020 season. A winger with experience with the Dominican Republic senior national team, the 17-year-old scored three goals in USL action last year.
