The 2025-26 MLS NEXT season kicked off over the weekend, as the MLS-run league enters a new phase.
With the launch of a two-tiered system, the MLS Academy and Homegrown Divisions will feature a new approach.
Additionally, MLS Academy sides in different corners of the country will play up against non-pro competition.
The oldest age group is fairly straightforward. Top 2009 talent in MLS sides will have to play up in order to get minutes, while players in the class of 2026 and 2027 seeking college opportunities face a big challenge.
