U17 World Cup veterans sign in Germany
It's long been rumored that Kobe Hernandez-Foster and Bryang Kayo would sign with Wolfsburg when they turned 18.
The official word finally came this week, as Wolfsburg announced the addition of the two players to their youth setup. Hernandez-Foster will join up with the Under-19s, while Kayo, who has yet to turn 18, will play for the Under-23 team at the club.
Hernandez-Foster is a defender that primarily plays as a left back. He joins from the LA Galaxy Academy, where he played since at least the 2016-17 season, making 74 appearances. In the final 2020 IMG Academy player rankings, he finished in the No. 1 spot. In 2019, he was named the Boys Development Academy Player of the Year in the West Conference.
Kayo is a box-to-box midfielder that most recently signed a professional contract with Orange County. Prior to that, Kayo joined the D.C. United Academy back in the 2017-18 season, making 54 Development Academy appearances for the MLS side. He played for Bethesda SC before moving to the DCU Academy. Gregg Berhalter summed Kayo to train last year with the full U.S. men's national team.
Both players were part of head coach Raphael Wicky's squad at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup. Hernandez-Foster started and played every minute in the three U.S. games.
