U18 Women begin prepping for U20 World Cup
The U.S. U18 Women’s National Team will hold a training camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., from May 9-16 that will run concurrently with the first week of the U.S. U20 WNT camp.
U.S. U18 WNT head coach Dave Chesler has named 22 players and could add two more before the camp begins.
As U.S. U20 WNT head coach Jill Ellis has narrowed down her player pool for this summer’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Germany, Chesler has begun to call in players from this year’s U17 WNT that failed to qualify for the 2010 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup despite outscoring opponents 38-0 across five games at the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in Costa Rica.
Chesler has named seven players from that squad, including midfielder Morgan Brian, the all-time leading scorer in U.S. U17 history with 14 goals in 18 U17 caps.
The U.S. U18s will play three matches during the camp at The HDC, taking on the U.S. U20s on May 9 at 6:30 p.m. PST, facing the women’s club Ajax of Los Angeles on May 12 at 7 p.m. and then taking on the LAFC women’s team on May 15 at 3 p.m.
