Union sign another to Homegrown deal
First Selmir Miscic, and now Brenden Aaronson.
The Phliadelphia Union have been busy over the past week, announcing the signing of a second Academy product to one of its teams. This time, the Union have signed Aaronson, the No. 15 ranked player in the 2019 Boys IMG Academy Top 150.
"It’s a special moment for all of us in the Philadelphia Union family to welcome Brenden to the First Team as a Homegrown Player,” Union Technical Director Chris Albright said in a press release. “Brenden has earned this contract through his hard work in training and his play with Bethlehem Steel FC and the Union Academy. This is another signing that we believe is reflective of our club’s philosophy and our ownership’s commitment to developing local talent. We’d like to congratulate Brenden and his family on his decision to turn professional.”
Originally from Medford, New Jersey, Aaronson has made 12 appearances this season for the Bethlehem Steel, the Union's USL side. Aaronson has appeared in 18 matches over the past two seasons with Steel, starting nine contests and playing 783 minutes. He scored his first professional goal and picked up an assistant against Atlanta United 2 earlier this season (highlights below).
Aaronson will join the Union active roster at the start of 2019.
