BOCA RATON, Fla. – Barry University women’s soccer team defeated Lynn Wednesday afternoon, 2-1, avenging a 2-1 defeat earlier this season.
The SSC rivals split the season series with the Fighting Knights capturing the first match which counted towards the conference standings.
Barry (7-6-1, 3-4-1 SSC) got on the board early and never looked back. Senior midfielder Katie Lamendola played a ball in to Lauren Manna whose cross to the center of the box connected with an open Sara Karna.
Karna’s shot to the left post found the back of the net and gave Barry the early 1-0 advantage.
Just four minutes later it was Manna once again, this time on the receiving end. Amber Bender lofted a pass over the middle of the defense and Manna was able to finish it off with a strike past Lynn goalkeeper Kelsey Butler to put Barry up 2-0.
Lynn (4-8-2, 3-4-1 SSC) scored in the 73rd minute of the match to cut the deficit to one, but the Buccaneers tightened up their defense behind Becca Rogers’ five saves to bring home the win.
Barry, winners of four of their last five matches including two straight, looks to close the regular season at home on a strong note.
The Bucs host Eckerd at Buccaneer field on Saturday, Oct. 27th with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The final home event will feature Senior Night, in which the Buccaneers will honor graduating seniors during a halftime ceremony.
Live-stat and video broadcast including halftime ceremony coverage will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
